Aligning the cloud to business priorities with a “service-provider” Cloud Operating Model.​​

DigiRen partnered with a major Australian gaming and entertainment company to evolve their Cloud Operating Model into a business-aligned, service-provider model. By embedding a team of cloud strategy experts, DigiRen designed a target state operating model, developed 28 prioritised recommendations across three horizons, and mapped four customer experience journeys. The engagement focused on improving developer experience, operational efficiency, and reducing complexity—supporting the client’s goal to increase digital market share and reduce OPEX by up to $100m by FY25.

Challenge

Our client is an ASX-listed gambling entertainment company that recognises the importance of technology and innovation in driving its business strategy. They are focused on developing and leveraging innovative technologies, such as mobile applications, digital platforms, and data analytics, to enhance their products, services, and customer experience with a “Cloud First” strategy. The client has set their sights at increasing its digital market share from 25% to 30% as well as reducing overall OpEx by $80m-$100m by FY25.

Whilst the client's current Cloud operating model has served well to date, it relies heavily on people, tribal knowledge, and uses an extensive manual process to fulfil the needs of the application, digital and data teams, and is seen as a critical constraint in meeting its strategic business objectives.​The Cloud operating model needs to evolve to maintain pace & align with the business needs, establishing processes and standards to increase operating efficiency, reduce complexity, and ensure ongoing security & compliance.​

Approach

DigiRen was engaged as a consulting partner to provide specialised guidance and facilitate a holistic approach to strategic thinking and design within the delivery teams comprising the Cloud & Enterprise Services department.​

DigiRen provided a team of three highly experienced team members consisting of a Delivery Lead and two Cloud Operating Model SMEs who:​

  1. Delivered a transparent and highly collaborative project delivered over a series of 9 weeks.​​
  2. Provided DigiRen accelerators, IP and previous experience to provide an expert lens tailored to the client's challenges.​​
  3. Collaboratively with 15 client representatives to assess the current state, define the “Customer Experience Journey” and assist in developing a target state roadmap.​

Outcomes

  • Endorsement of the Future Cloud Operating Model: Supported by strong executive sponsorship, DigiRen collaborated with customer stakeholders across the client to design and present the Future Cloud Operating Model, with a particular emphasis on improved Developer Experience and Operational Efficiency. ​
  • Prioritised initiatives and partnerships: The team identified and prioritised key activities, focusing on initiatives and partnership opportunities critical to the client's current needs and imminent major initiatives. This approach ensures the successful execution of the client's immediate endeavours while concurrently laying the groundwork for future enhancements and advancements.​​
